On October 23, 1989 Charles Stuart alleged that his pregnant wife Carol was shot and killed by an African-American assailant. Stuart's brother confessed to Boston police that Stuart killed Carol to collect life insurance, and Stuart subsequently committed suicide. In the interim, out classmate, Craig Hickman, was falsely suspected, detained, and assaulted by the Boston police, for no reason other than being a black man in the same city.
